Hooey

Hooey takes its name from the rodeo arena: the hooey is the last wrap, a half-hitch, that a tie-down roper throws right before his hands go up to stop the clock. Founder Joey Austin grew up roping in a small Texas town, spent a few years building hospitals in California, and came home convinced western kids deserved a brand with the same energy he'd seen in surf culture.

He started in 2009 with two cap designs out of a spare bedroom. Today Hooey runs from a 15-acre headquarters in Spring Branch, Texas, complete with a barn and roping arena, and its trucker hats, hoodies, tees, backpacks and wallets get wear-tested right there. Along the way, Hooey Helps has given more than $300,000 to veterans and others in need.
