Judy Blue runs on junior sizing, not your usual pant size.
The number on the tag is a junior size, and the number in brackets beside it is the denim waist — a 5 (27) is a 27″ waist. If you normally buy a size 8 in women’s, you’re looking at a 9 (29) here. Go by the waist measurement in the table and you’ll land right.

A few things we’ve learned fitting these
- Measure over bare skin, not over jeans. The tape should sit where the waistband sits — for a high rise that’s at your natural waist, for a mid rise it’s an inch or two lower.
- Between two sizes? The denim has real stretch and it relaxes with wear, so most people are happier in the smaller of the two. The tummy control styles in particular are built to be snug.
- The jump from 11 (30) to 13 (31) is bigger than the jumps below it — an inch and a half at the waist instead of one. Worth knowing if you’re right on that line.
- Length is called out separately on the styles that offer it. Where there’s no length option, the inseam is listed on the product page.
