Old West Kids Size Guide
Old West Kids
A size 1 is bigger than a 13½, not smaller than a 2.
Children’s footwear sizing runs up to 13½ and then starts over at 1. Sort the numbers and you will get it backwards, so read the run, not the number. Smallest to largest it goes: 0–4, then 4–8, then 8½–13½, then 1–3, then 3½–7.
The four runs we stock
| Run | Sizes | Who it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Infant | 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 | Soft pull-on booties for babies and early walkers. |
| Toddler | 4 to 8, half sizes throughout | The first real boot. |
| Youth | 8½ to 13½, then 1 to 3 | Picks up where toddler ends and carries through the sizing restart. |
| Youth, extended | 8½ to 13½, 1 to 3, then 3½ to 7 | Some styles run on past a 3. The largest kids’ boot we carry. |
Every Old West kids’ boot we stock comes in one medium width, shown as M on the product page. A few styles are made in two runs under a paired style number — a toddler run and a youth run of the same boot — and on those pages you will see the whole range in one size list.
Fitting a growing foot
| What to do | Why |
|---|---|
| Measure standing, with weight on the foot | A foot spreads under load. Measured sitting, it will come up short. |
| Use the sock they will wear | A boot sock takes up real room. A thin school sock does not. |
| Leave about a thumb’s width at the toe | Roughly half a size of growing room. Much more than that and the heel slips badly enough to blister. |
| Expect a little heel slip anyway | Normal and correct in a new western boot, for children as much as adults. |
| Check again at the change of season | Feet move fast in the toddler years. |
Old West don’t publish a size chart or a foot-length table of their own, so there are no brand measurements to print here. The runs above are what we stock, and the fitting advice is ours from behind the counter.
