Thorogood Size Guide
Thorogood
Thorogood build to US men’s sizing, and their fit advice is about room rather than conversion charts. Measure from your heel to your longest toe, and size up to account for the socks you actually wear on the job. Once the boot is on, you want about a finger’s width — roughly half an inch — between your longest toe and the end of the boot.
Thorogood don’t publish a comparison to sneaker or dress shoe sizing, so if you’re between two sizes, come try them on. We’d rather fit you than guess.
Widths
Thorogood build two widths: D (standard) and EE (wide). You’ll sometimes see the wide written as 2E in Thorogood’s own materials — it’s the same width. On our site it’s listed as EE/W, and standard is D/M.
What a width actually changes
These are Thorogood’s own published figures, and they’re more useful than most brands bother to share:
| Going from D to EE | Difference |
|---|---|
| Across the heel | About 1/16″ (1.4 mm) wider |
| Across the toe box | About 1/4″ wider at the same size |
| Steel or safety toe cap | No change — the cap is the same width in D and EE |
| Going up a half size | Difference |
|---|---|
| Length | About 3/16″ (4.23 mm) longer |
| Width | About 1/8″ (3.18 mm) wider |
Worth knowing if you’re on the edge: going up a half size gains you less width than moving to an EE does, and it costs you length you may not want.
Sizes
Thorogood run 5 through 15 in D, and 6 through 15 in EE, depending on the style. What we have in stock is shown on each boot.
